Maintaining a rhythm

A bit short and unstructured today, but posting to keep things moving along. End-of-weeknotes, if you will.

  • I woke up to a beeping NAS – one of the HDDs is failing with bad sectors, and the drive is less than a year old! I shall be RMA’ing that!!
  • Fabrik (which I only wrote about a couple of weeks ago!) is changing their London offering and closing the physical space, so I’ve been trying to track what’s going on with that, but not able to get to any of the meetings about it all. I’m sad about it.
  • We recorded episode 476 of Games at Work dot Biz in my early evening. It will be out on Monday. I think it was a good show, and it flowed nicely. I think the episode of Techgrumps that we recorded last weekend should be published shortly as well.
  • I worked on the July Trunk & Tidbits blog post (our regular episode of Mastodon engineering updates) – this has been on my list all week to get done, but I fell behind. I hope to get that posted on Monday, a Friday probably would not have been ideal for it anyway.
  • Installed a modem into the Pocket Reform, but I left the antenna in a box in the studio and it is not currently registering with the mobile network – I think that’s the only issue, but I’m not an expert in mobile broadband and Linux.
    • I also managed to hose wifi in the meantime (something something kernel update mumble) but I do have a backup / recovery SD image that works, so I’ll figure that out next week.
  • Dug into Elena‘s exploration of Friendica! I have a Friendica account – mostly as part of a personal effort to try all of the fediverse things – but I do not use it much. Her enthusiasm is catching, so I’ll probably have to play with it some more. I think the instance I’m on may have fewer features enabled than I see in her article, though.

Next week I really need to focus on some more Mastodon things, some maker projects, and some personal admin tasks. I also want to overhaul the site design here. Hopefully, I’ll have more solid things to write about, as well.
